Holy Land Pilgrimage with Padre Carlos Gomez as Spiritual Director

 

November 07

Depart from your home city to Washington, DC (Dulles Airport). The group will assemble here before flying to Tel Aviv.

 

November 08

Arriving at Tel Aviv around 3PM. Assistance with visas and immigration processes at Ben Gurion international airport. Transportation to the hotel and check in. At the appointed time, we will visit the historic downtown district of Israel’s capital. From there, we will go to Joppe where, through its small streets, on discovers an ancient fishing port and the church of St. Peter where we will enjoy the celebration of our first Holy Mass of the trip. At the end of the celebration, we will go back to the hotel in Tel Aviv for dinner and rest.

 

November 09

TEL AVIV – CAESAREA MARITIMA – MOUNT CARMEL – CANA OF CALILEE – NAZARETH

Breakfast at the hotel and leaving to Caesarea Maritima to visit the amphitheatre, the harbor built by Herod the Great from which the apostles sailed to evangelize the world, the Crusader Fortress and the Aqueduct. From here, we will visit Mount Carmel where the ancient Stella Maris monastery dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel is located. At this place we will be invested with the brown scapular of Our Lady. After words, we are going to Cana of Galilee place of Jesus’ first miracle at the wedding of Cana; married couples may renew their wedding vows. Then, we will go to Nazareth for lunch at a local restaurant, following by Holy Mass at the Basilica of the Annunciation, stopover at the ruins of the ancient town and the carpenter’s workshop at St. Joseph. Check in at the hotel and dinner; overnight at Nazareth. 

November 10

NAZARETH – TABGHA – PRIMACY OF PETER – BANIAS – TIBERIAS

Breakfast at the hotel. At the appointed time departing towards the Sea of Galilee’s region. Once there, we will go to Tabgha; a place where the multiplication of fish and bread occurred. If the group decides, we can do Morning Prayer having the related Gospel passage as the center of our reflection. After our prayer time, we will move towards a place called The Primacy of Peter where we will hear Mass and, at the shores of the Sea of Galilee, have the opportunity to revive Jesus’ sending the Apostles to their mission. Having done this, we will be transferred to a restaurant for lunch. In the afternoon, we will go up to Banias to enjoy a meditation walk in one of the most beautiful natural sites of northern Israel, the born of the Jordan River which is close by Caesarea Philippi. Subsequently, we will go down by the Golan Heights to Tiberias where the hotel is located; check in and dinner. After dinner, we will go to the city’s port to board the “Allelula” boat and enjoy a Holy Hour while sailing in the Sea of Galilee (Tiberias). Having adored our Lord Jesus, we will go back to the hotel to spend the night.

November 11

TIBERIAS – MOUNT TABOR – CAPERNAUM – YARDENIT – TIBERIAS

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving on time towards Mount Tabor; once there, we will take a taxi which will take us to the top of this emblematic place where, at the Church of the Transfiguration, we will celebrate the Holy Mass, and then walk around and take a look at the Armageddon Valley. After a short break we will go down to a port at the Sea of Galilee to take a boat that will take us to the place called, “City of Jesus” = Capernaum. In the city, we will visit a Synagogue from the IV century, St. Peter’s mother-in-law’s house, the ancient mills, etc. Lunch will follow at a local restaurant where the traditional “Fish of St. Peter” is offered. In the afternoon, we will have a ride to a place called “Yardenit” at the Jordan River to celebrate the renewal of our baptismal promises and meditation of the appropriate Gospel passage. (You may go into the waters to renew your baptism as well). We will take the bus back to the hotel to have dinner and spend the night.

 

November 12

TIBERIAS – MOUNT OF BEATITUDES – DEAD SEA – QUMRAN – MASADA – JERICHO

 

Breakfast at the hotel. At the appointed time leaving to the Mount of Beatitudes, visit and Holy Mass at the site, after which we will head towards the Dead Sea. Once there, we will visit the Qumran; place where the famous Dead Sea Scrolls, written by the Essenes, were found. Lunch will follow at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to visit Masada where a fortress from the time of the Crusaders is found at the northern part of the Sea. After the visit is over, we will go down to the shores of the Dead Sea to take a bath in the saltiest waters on earth and to take advantage of the well-known healing properties of its mud. After this experience, the bus will take us to the hotel in Jericho for an overnight stay and dinner.

 

November 13

JERICHO – JERUSALEM – EIN KAREM – JERUSALEM

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving the hotel at the appointed time towards the Mount of Temptations where, by cable railway, we will go up to the mount, proclaim the related Gospel passage and pray Morning Prayer. After this, we will go straight up to the Mount Scopus in Jerusalem to enjoy a panoramic view of the Holy City. It will follow a visit to the Book Museum to see a big model of the ancient city of Jerusalem so that after the explanation of it, we will have a better understanding of the city during Jesus’ time. Lunch at a local restaurant. Leaving to Ein Karem, a close by town where we will visit two important places: The Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth and the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. We will have Holy Mass here. Transportation back to Jerusalem, check in at the hotel and dinner.

 

November 14

JERUSALEM – BETHLEHEM – JERUSALEM

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving to Bethlehem at the due time we will visit the Shepherds’ Field where the Angel announced the Good News to them; Morning Prayer. In a spirit of prayer and joy, we will go to the Basilica of the Nativity where Our Lord was born and celebrate the Holy Mass. Afterwards, we will visit the Milk Grotto (officially Grotto of The Lady Mary) which is considered sacred because tradition has it that the Holy Family took refuge here during the Slaughter of the innocents, before their flight into Egypt. Also, tradition has it that while Mary was nursing Jesus here, a drop of milk fell to the ground, turning it white. Lunch at a traditional restaurant in Bethlehem. We will go back to Jerusalem to visit Mount Zion, the Church of The Dormition of Mary, the Tomb of King David, the Cenacle (Last Supper) where we could pray Evening Prayer and St. Peter in Gallicantu (Prison of Jesus and memorial of Peter’s denial of Jesus). Dinner at the hotel and then, we will go to the Church of the Agony, next to the Garden of Olives, to celebrate a Holy Hour. Back to the hotel to spend the night.

 

November 15

JERUSALEM; MOUNT OF OLIVES (Gethsemane)

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Transportation to the Mount of Olives where we will visit the Ascension of Jesus to Heaven, the Our Father Church, “Dominus Flevit” (where The Lord Cried over Jerusalem), the Tomb of the Virgin Mary, the Grotto of the Jesus’ Arrest, Church of the Agony and the Garden of Gethsemane. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will go into the Old City of Jerusalem through the Lions’ Gate and visit the Pool of Bethesda and St. Anne’s Church. In addition, we will visit the Lithostrotos (the site where the public trial of Jesus took place) from where we will start meditating the Stations of the Cross following the “Via Dolorosa” or Way of the Cross which ends at Calvary (Golgotha) and the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher. Once there, we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist in one of the Chapels inside the Basilica. After Mass, there will be some free time to walk around the Old City before we head back to the hotel for dinner and rest at the appointed time.

 

November 16

JERUSALEM: (Old City) – BETHANIA – JERUSALEM

 

Very early in the morning we will leave the hotel to be on time for the opening of the Holy Sepulcher; at 5:00 A.M. At this place we will have a moment of silence and prayer, we may have Morning Prayer and those Ladies who so wish, may bring ointments and/or perfumed oils to anoint the Stone of Unction (The cover stone of Jesus’ sepulcher). After the visit we will go back to the hotel for breakfast and a short break. Leaving the hotel to visit the Temple’s Esplanade, the Western Wall, and the Jewish and Christian neighborhoods. Lunch time. In the afternoon we will go to Bethany (Bethania) where Jesus’ friends lived: Martha, Mary and Lazarus who He raised from the dead. We will have Holy Mass at this place. Back to the hotel for dinner and rest.

 

November 17

JERUSALEM – EMMAUS - JERUSALEM

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards we will go to the town of Emmaus where Jesus appeared, after his resurrection, to the two disciples who recognized Him at the braking of the bread; visit and Eucharistic celebration at this place. Back to Jerusalem for lunch, after which there will be a free afternoon to go around the city and get last minute souvenirs. At the appointed time, last dinner and ceremony; hand over of the Holy Land pilgrims certificates. Overnight at the hotel.

 

November 18

JERUSALEM – TEL AVIV (airport) – U.S.A.

Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving to the airport in Tel Aviv at the appointed time to check in with the airline, immigration and customs. Flying back to the U.S.A.
